We are pleased to announce that the ACL special interest groups SIGLEX and SIGSEM, after a very successful first edition, are organizing the second joint conference on lexical and computational semantics: *SEM 2013.The main goal of *SEM is to provide a stable forum for the growing number of NLP researchers working on different aspects of semantic processing, which has been scattered over a large array of small workshops and conferences.Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Formal and linguistic semantics
  • Cognitive aspects of semantics
  • Lexical semantics
  • Semantic aspects of morphology and semantic processing of morphologically rich languages
  • Semantic processing at the sentence level
  • Semantic processing at the discourse level
  • Semantic processing of non-propositional aspects of meaning
  • Textual entailment
  • Multiword expressions
  • Multilingual semantic processing
  • Social media and linguistic semantics

*SEM 2013 will feature a distinguished panel on Deep Language Understanding.

*SEM 2013 hosts the shared task on Semantic Textual Similarity.

SemEval 2013 will be co-located with  *SEM and NAACL.

This year’s *SEM conference will be a two-day event co-located with the 2013 Conference of the North American Chapter of the Association for Computational Linguistics: Human Language Technologies (NAACL HLT).  The conferences will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, in June. *SEM will be on June 13-14. Please note that registration to *SEM takes place through the NAACL registration website.

IMPORTANT: Please download the *SEM proceedings prior to arriving in Atlanta

NAACL has decided to discontinue the distribution of the proceedings on a USB Key.  Instead, the proceedings are available online, both by publishing all individual papers on the ACL Anthology (now available here) as well as on this site (see Program tab above), and as a gzipped tarball containing the NAACL and *SEM proceedings with local html files for navigation. We encourage you to download the proceedings tarball now, rather than once you arrive at the conference, since hotel internet services can be unreliable.  Please download the 180M tarball for the proceedings now, and bring it with you. There is also a mobile app and you can access the *SEM hanbook (starting on page 69) from here.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Atlanta!
